From colorful reef beauts to powerful deep sea warriors, Fiji is oozing with potential catches. It’s impossible to mention them all, so we’ll focus on the most prized fish. Let’s see the superstars.</p><h3 id="h-mahi-mahi" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 24px; line-height: 33px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-top: 20px;">Mahi Mahi</h3><p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 28px; margin: 0px; padding-bottom: 20px;">Less than half an hour into the open sea and you could already be chasing after Mahi Mahi. These speedsters aren’t exclusive to Fijian waters, but they’re certainly the embodiment of the archipelago’s tropical vibe. With bright colors, admirable game fish traits, and excellent table fare, it’s no wonder they’re on everyone’s list. </p><figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-style-default" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px 0px 1em; padding: 30px 0px;"><img alt="An angler holding huge Mahi Mahi with his both hands" class="wp-image-35177 entered exited" data-lazy-sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" data-lazy-src="https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Mahi-Mahi.jpg" data-lazy-srcset="https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Mahi-Mahi.jpg 1024w, https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Mahi-Mahi-300x225.jpg 300w, https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Mahi-Mahi-768x576.jpg 768w" height="768" src="data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%201024%20768'%3E%3C/svg%3E" style="border-radius: inherit; border: 0px none; box-sizing: border-box; height: 489.375px; max-width: 100%; vertical-align: bottom; width: 652.5px;" width="1024" /></figure><p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 28px; margin: 0px; padding-bottom: 20px;">Mahi Mahi inhabit these waters throughout the entire year, but the peak season runs from May through October. Usually, you’ll notice them traveling in packs and meandering around floating objects in search of food. Alternatively, you can easily locate them by trolling. While spotting and luring them isn’t challenging, reeling them in is when you’ll have to roll up your sleeves. </p><p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 28px; margin: 0px; padding-bottom: 20px;">When you end up victorious, reward your taste buds with fresh Mahi Mahi sashimi. Not only will the struggle be worth it, but you’ll want to sign up for a new round of Mahi Mahi pursuit.</p><h3 id="h-tuna" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 24px; line-height: 33px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-top: 20px;">Tuna</h3><p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 28px; margin: 0px; padding-bottom: 20px;">Now that we warmed up with Mahi Mahi, let’s move on to the big names. Tuna fishing is essential to Fiji’s economy. While the majority of its fishing industry relies on Albacore Tuna, Skipjack and Yellowfin Tuna supplies aren’t lagging behind. What’s more, they’re also every angler’s favorites. With these mighty beasts joining the conversation, Fiji’s fishing scene just started to heat up.</p><figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-style-default" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px 0px 1em; padding: 30px 0px;"><img alt="Yellowfin Tuna caught by a father with two kids" class="wp-image-35244 entered exited" data-lazy-sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" data-lazy-src="https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Yellowfin-Tuna.jpg" data-lazy-srcset="https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Yellowfin-Tuna.jpg 1024w, https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Yellowfin-Tuna-300x225.jpg 300w, https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Yellowfin-Tuna-768x576.jpg 768w" height="768" src="data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%201024%20768'%3E%3C/svg%3E" style="border-radius: inherit; border: 0px none; box-sizing: border-box; height: 489.375px; max-width: 100%; vertical-align: bottom; width: 652.5px;" width="1024" /></figure><p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 28px; margin: 0px; padding-bottom: 20px;">Tuna, also known here as <em style="box-sizing: border-box;">Yatu</em>, are migratory species, and the winter months are the most productive for going after them. Undoubtedly, Yellowfin Tuna are the main attraction. Their admirable size and strength will have you gasp in awe. Endure the struggle, and you’ll feel proud with Yellowfin Tuna gracing the end of your line.</p><p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 28px; margin: 0px; padding-bottom: 20px;">Trolling is the most effective method for catching Tuna, but locals practice the traditional approach with a line and pole, too. Nadi, Denarau Island, and Namotu Island are ideal departure points for targeting Tuna. And Fiji fishing charters are plentiful there.</p><h3 id="h-giant-trevally" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 24px; line-height: 33px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-top: 20px;">Giant Trevally</h3><p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 28px; margin: 0px; padding-bottom: 20px;">Speaking of massive game fish, there’s a potential three-digit catch that can make your day – Giant Trevally. Though it’s more common to come across 50-pounders, Fiji’s blue waters also produce GTs that can weigh up to 100 pounds! Larger specimens are permanent residents around Kadavu Island and the Great Astrolabe Reef – one of the largest barrier reefs in the world. </p><figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-style-default" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px 0px 1em; padding: 30px 0px;"><img alt="An angler embracing his big Giant Trevally catch on a boat" class="wp-image-35179 entered lazyloaded" data-lazy-sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" data-lazy-src="https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/GT-ruka.jpg" data-lazy-srcset="https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/GT-ruka.jpg 1024w, https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/GT-ruka-300x225.jpg 300w, https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/GT-ruka-768x576.jpg 768w" data-ll-status="loaded" height="768" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" src="https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/GT-ruka.jpg" srcset="https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/GT-ruka.jpg 1024w, https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/GT-ruka-300x225.jpg 300w, https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/GT-ruka-768x576.jpg 768w" style="border-radius: inherit; border: 0px none; box-sizing: border-box; height: 489.375px; max-width: 100%; vertical-align: bottom; width: 652.5px;" width="1024" /></figure><p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 28px; margin: 0px; padding-bottom: 20px;">Cast poppers work wonders with these giants. For the safe release of GTs into the water, locals also recommend using heavy tackle. To maximize your likelihood of reeling the magnificent Trevallies in, visit Fiji anywhere from January to April. But, truth be told, you’ll be able to target them year-round across the archipelago. </p><h3 id="h-marlin" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 24px; line-height: 33px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-top: 20px;">Marlin</h3><p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 28px; margin: 0px; padding-bottom: 20px;">Slowly, but surely we’re reaching the top of the pyramid with these royals. These breathtaking jumpers have long been the dream catch of almost every angler on the planet. Marlin are premier members of the Billfish family. They’re widely recognized as pioneers of the big game fishing scene. And Fiji boasts some of the best Blue, Black, and Striped Marlin fishing corners in the world. </p><figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-style-default" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px 0px 1em; padding: 30px 0px;"><img alt="Four anglers holding a Marlin they landed aboard a boat" class="wp-image-35180 entered lazyloaded" data-lazy-sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" data-lazy-src="https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Marlin.jpg" data-lazy-srcset="https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Marlin.jpg 1024w, https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Marlin-300x225.jpg 300w, https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Marlin-768x576.jpg 768w" data-ll-status="loaded" height="768" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" src="https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Marlin.jpg" srcset="https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Marlin.jpg 1024w, https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Marlin-300x225.jpg 300w, https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Marlin-768x576.jpg 768w" style="border-radius: inherit; border: 0px none; box-sizing: border-box; height: 489.375px; max-width: 100%; vertical-align: bottom; width: 652.5px;" width="1024" /></figure><p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 28px; margin: 0px; padding-bottom: 20px;">These solitary creatures are usually spotted offshore during their food runs. Marlin are insatiable and won’t be able to resist tasty ballyhoo or bonito baits. Trolling is your go-to technique and a fighting chair is your best friend when testing your skill against these monsters. Seasoned anglers will testify that there’s nothing more rewarding than coming out glorious after a long clash with these titans.</p><p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 28px; margin: 0px; padding-bottom: 20px;">Note that Marlin, as well as the other Sailfish and Billfish, are strictly “catch and release”. Fiji fishing charters will guide you on how to go about safely releasing them into the water.</p><h2 id="h-and-much-more" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 30px; line-height: 40px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-top: 20px;">… And Much More!</h2><p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 28px; margin: 0px; padding-bottom: 20px;">We might have reached the top of our pyramid when it comes to big game fishing, but angling in Fiji is so much more than its headliners. Families with kids can cast a line or two in the nearshore area and marvel at a variety of species. With hundreds of islands, miles of reefs, and acres of water, Fiji’s underwater world is simply teeming with life. </p><figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-style-default" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px 0px 1em; padding: 30px 0px;"><img alt="An angler on a boat holding Rainbow Runner with both his hands" class="wp-image-35245 entered lazyloaded" data-lazy-sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" data-lazy-src="https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Rainbow-Runner.jpg" data-lazy-srcset="https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Rainbow-Runner.jpg 1024w, https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Rainbow-Runner-300x225.jpg 300w, https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Rainbow-Runner-768x576.jpg 768w" data-ll-status="loaded" height="768" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" src="https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Rainbow-Runner.jpg" srcset="https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Rainbow-Runner.jpg 1024w, https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Rainbow-Runner-300x225.jpg 300w, https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Rainbow-Runner-768x576.jpg 768w" style="border-radius: inherit; border: 0px none; box-sizing: border-box; height: 489.375px; max-width: 100%; vertical-align: bottom; width: 652.5px;" width="1024" /></figure><p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 28px; margin: 0px; padding-bottom: 20px;">Sailfish, Swordfish, Spearfish, Wahoo, and Dogtooth Tuna are additional names that stand out from the crowd offshore. But how much do you actually know about what to expect there? When to go after Yellowfin Tuna? Where are the hotspots? What to pack for an offshore trip? The wisest thing you can do for yourself when traveling to a remote destination like <a href="https://fishingbooker.com/destinations/country/fj" style="background-color: transparent; box-sizing: border-box; color: #337ab7; text-decoration-line: none;">Fiji</a> is to hire a local guide who’ll answer all your questions. </p><figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-style-default" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px 0px 1em; padding: 30px 0px;"><img alt="An aerial view of Fiji fishing charter on wonderful turquoise water" class="wp-image-35181 entered lazyloaded" data-lazy-sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" data-lazy-src="https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Charter2.jpg" data-lazy-srcset="https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Charter2.jpg 1024w, https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Charter2-300x225.jpg 300w, https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Charter2-768x576.jpg 768w" data-ll-status="loaded" height="768" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" src="https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Charter2.jpg" srcset="https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Charter2.jpg 1024w, https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Charter2-300x225.jpg 300w, https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Charter2-768x576.jpg 768w" style="border-radius: inherit; border: 0px none; box-sizing: border-box; height: 489.375px; max-width: 100%; vertical-align: bottom; width: 652.5px;" width="1024" /></figure><p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 28px; margin: 0px; padding-bottom: 20px;">Pairing up with a licensed boat operator has numerous benefits, with inside knowledge being at the top of your list. Fiji fishing charters have spent their entire lives exploring these waters. They’ll take you where the fish are biting and help you prepare for your trip. Also, you won’t have to worry about rules and regulations. A fishing license will either be included in your trip or the captain will inform you on how to go about it.</p><h3 id="h-spearfishing" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 24px; line-height: 33px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-top: 20px;">Handline Fishing</h3><p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 28px; margin: 0px; padding-bottom: 20px;">Fiji is all about tradition. You’ll crave experimenting with their traditional fishing techniques, the same way you’ll crave their traditional food, drinks, and well-known hospitality. One such common practice of reeling in fish is handline fishing. It’s been around since the locals can remember. This is a simple, yet effective method. Line, reel, bait, hook, your hands – you’re all set!</p><figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-style-default" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px 0px 1em; padding: 30px 0px;"><img alt="A kid trying out handline fishing from a boat" class="wp-image-35183 entered lazyloaded" data-lazy-sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" data-lazy-src="https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Handline-Fishing-Kid.jpg" data-lazy-srcset="https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Handline-Fishing-Kid.jpg 1024w, https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Handline-Fishing-Kid-300x225.jpg 300w, https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Handline-Fishing-Kid-768x576.jpg 768w" data-ll-status="loaded" height="768" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" src="https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Handline-Fishing-Kid.jpg" srcset="https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Handline-Fishing-Kid.jpg 1024w, https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Handline-Fishing-Kid-300x225.jpg 300w, https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/2022/03/Handline-Fishing-Kid-768x576.jpg 768w" style="border-radius: inherit; border: 0px none; box-sizing: border-box; height: 489.375px; max-width: 100%; vertical-align: bottom; width: 652.5px;" width="1024" /></figure><p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 28px; margin: 0px; padding-bottom: 20px;">Handline fishing is one of the oldest approaches to catching fish here. While it sounds like you can only target smaller reef species, you’ll be surprised to learn that you can land bigger specimens like Barracuda, too. Just make sure to wear gloves when reeling the big ones in! Handline fishing is also the ideal way to bond with the locals, hear their life stories, and experience their culture firsthand – no pun intended!</p><h3 id="h-shore-fishing" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 24px; line-height: 33px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-top: 20px;">Shore Fishing</h3><p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 28px; margin: 0px; padding-bottom: 20px;">If you’re a fan of white-sand beaches, then casting from shore might be the right choice for you. It’s important to know that not all beaches are fishable. Some resorts have a strict “no fishing” policy, but they’re willing to direct you towards places from which you can fish. We recommend consulting with the locals before casting your line from the beach.</p><h2 id="h-where-can-i-fish-in-fiji" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 30px; line-height: 40px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-top: 20px;">Where can I fish in Fiji?</h2><p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px; line-height: 28px; margin: 0px; padding-bottom: 20px;">With more than 300 islands and 500 islets, knowing where to fish in Fiji can be challenging. A stroll along the shallow flats, estuaries and mangrove streams can harvest a good crop of barracuda, sea breem, salmon cod, mangrove snapper and jack from 2 to 12 Ib. </p><p>Freshwater streams and rivers on the main islands are light tackle grounds. Ika droka, the wily jungle perch, are taken up to five lb. Hand line fishing, nite line fishing, light tackle fishing, trolling and big game fishing are all popular at most of the Fiji resorts. You can also try your luck at spearfishing with the natives along the coral reefs at low tide.</p><p>Fiji has some great spots for game fishing and a number of excellent <a href="https://www.tropicalfiji.com/sights_and_activities/activities/fishing/" target="_blank">fishing charters</a>. The deep channels around the rich reefs of Beqa in the Southern Islands are one of the best spots for wahoo, marlin, yellow fin tuna and dolphin fish. The area is assessable by staying on the tiny island of Nagigia right in the Southern Islands at Nagigia Resort which offers deep sea fishing or from the south coast of Viti Levu, the main island, where several day charters are available at Pacific Harbor (home of the country’s game fishing tournament in August) or at Waidroka Bay.</p><p>Another excellent area for game fishing is around the southern Mamanuca Group. This popular holiday destination is geared up for tourism and some of the resorts offer their own sports fishing boats including Tokoriki Island Resort. There are several larger game fishing charters operating from Denarau Marina, just outside of Nadi on Viti Levu (just 15 minutes by boat to the Mamanucas) and from Musket Cove Resort in the heart of the Mamanuca Group.</p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Game Fishing Seasons and Average weights:</h3><h4 style="text-align: left;">Fish Season Av. Weight</h4><p>Marlin All months (best Nov-Feb) 400-800 lb.</p><p>Wahoo May-Sep 50-100 lb.</p><p>Dolphin Fish (Mahimahi) Dec-Jan and Jun-Aug</p><p>Yellow Fin Tuna All months (best=May-Sep)</p><p>Walu All months</p><h4>Fish Season</h4><p>Fishing in FIJI is favoured all year round. There is simply great fishing for everyone! All methods of game fishing are available in Fiji – choice of group to instruct captain/crew. Overnight charter too is also available where the whole family can fish and catch a great catch of edible fish.</p><p>Dry Season: May – November.</p><p>Wet Season: December – April.</p><p>Best Wahoo Season: May – August.</p><p>Best Billfish Season: March-April, July-August, October-November.</p><p>Best Tanguige Season: Feb-April, July-August, October-November.</p><p>Best Tuna Season: April – July.</p><p>Sailfish occur through the year – possibly best in August.</p><div class="blogger-post-footer">"Bite Me"

A fertile underwater ecosystem offers everything from Marlin and Wahoo to Tuna and Mahi Mahi. There's plenty to challenge even the most experienced anglers.</p><p style="box-sizing: border-box; line-height: 1.5; margin-bottom: 1rem; margin-top: 0px;">Game fishing in Fiji is one of the most <a href="http://www.namotuislandfiji.com/experiences" style="background-color: transparent; box-sizing: border-box; color: #00aed6; text-decoration-line: none;">popular activities</a> on Namotu. Even those who come to surf take time off to enjoy the pleasures of tracking, luring and capturing their prey. They're rewarded with a delicious dinner made of that day's catch.</p><p style="box-sizing: border-box; line-height: 1.5; margin-bottom: 1rem; margin-top: 0px;">When you visit Namotu, you'll have access to the island's fishing experts. They'll point you to the best spots and offer useful tips on how to maximise your haul. Following is an overview that will help you <a href="http://www.namotuislandfiji.com/experience/fishing" style="background-color: transparent; box-sizing: border-box; color: #00aed6; text-decoration-line: none;">prepare for the adventure</a>.</p><h2 style="box-sizing: border-box; color: #0087ae; font-size: 2rem; font-weight: 300; line-height: 1.25; margin-bottom: 1rem; margin-top: 0px;">Best Spots For Fishing In Fiji</h2><p style="box-sizing: border-box; line-height: 1.5; margin-bottom: 1rem; margin-top: 0px;">There are several places near Namotu Island to fish with various kinds of fish. For example, the waters near Suva, south of Viti Levu, are rich with Giant Trevally, Yellowfin and various Marlin (depending on the time of year). The waters around Kaduva, south of Suva, are filled with Spanish Mackerel and Yellowfin tuna. Taveuni, a few kilometres northeast of Suva, is a great place to find schooling species, such as Tuna and Mackerel.</p><p style="box-sizing: border-box; line-height: 1.5; margin-bottom: 1rem; margin-top: 0px;">Thanks largely to the ocean's warm temperature, the channels around Namotu Island offer a variety of fish, including Spanish mackerel, Giant trevally, wahoo and marlin. Having said that, if you want to venture out toward Suva, Kaduva or Taveuni, you can hire a game fishing charter boat to make the trek.</p><h2 style="box-sizing: border-box; color: #0087ae; font-size: 2rem; font-weight: 300; line-height: 1.25; margin-bottom: 1rem; margin-top: 0px;">The Best Time Of Year To Fish In Fiji</h2><p style="box-sizing: border-box; line-height: 1.5; margin-bottom: 1rem; margin-top: 0px;">A lot depends on the type of fish you hope to catch. Although numerous species can be found in Fiji's tropical waters throughout the year, some are more plentiful during certain times.</p><p style="box-sizing: border-box; line-height: 1.5; margin-bottom: 1rem; margin-top: 0px;">For example, if you want to catch Mahi Mahi, you can do so year-round. But it's helpful to know they make a big appearance twice a year: from December through February and July through August.</p><p style="box-sizing: border-box; line-height: 1.5; margin-bottom: 1rem; margin-top: 0px;">Giant trevally can also be found year-round. But the waters around Fiji are especially populated with them between February and April.</p><p style="box-sizing: border-box; line-height: 1.5; margin-bottom: 1rem; margin-top: 0px;">Want to catch wahoo? You'll find them in the waters surrounding Namotu from April through October. But they're particularly abundant in July and August.</p><p style="box-sizing: border-box; line-height: 1.5; margin-bottom: 1rem; margin-top: 0px;">Spanish mackerel can be found year-round, but tend to congregate around Fiji in August and November through December. The waters swell with blue marlin in February and March; Yellowfin tuna in March and April; and sailfish in June and July.</p><p style="box-sizing: border-box; line-height: 1.5; margin-bottom: 1rem; margin-top: 0px;">There's no “bad” time to go fishing in Fiji. As you can see from above, the waters teem with an array of species from January through December. But if you've set your sights on a particular type of fish, it pays to know when the waters are overrun with them.</p><p style="box-sizing: border-box; line-height: 1.5; margin-bottom: 1rem; margin-top: 0px;">Many guests who stay at the Namotu Island Resort go game fishing for the first time and discover they love the experience. Make sure you set aside time to fish when you visit the island. Your <a href="http://www.namotuislandfiji.com/reservations" style="background-color: transparent; box-sizing: border-box; color: #00aed6; text-decoration-line: none;">Fijian bure or villa</a> places you ultra-close to the water so you'll be minutes away from the action!</p></div><div class="blogger-post-footer">"Bite Me"

After a few smaller to mid-sized fish his Cubera got monstered...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Marc reports:<br />
<div>
"That last day turned out to be the most rewarding fishing experience I've had. </div>
<div>
Steady
rain. Heavy at times, but a pleasant temperature. Relatively calm.
High Tide. Conditions were perfect. Third cast of the trip, three rips
of the popper and all I see is a giant gray shadow come out of the
water totally engulfing the popper. The fight was on as the fish struck
at the end of a very long cast. Drag screaming. Sikeli was an amazing captain, immediately maneuvering the boat away
from the reef as I did battle. I 've caught plenty of big fish, but
none with the brute strength of a <a href="http://gamefishingfiji.com/fish-species-fiji/giant-trevally-gt/" target="_blank">GT</a>. Unbelievable. The drag of my
Stella 18,000 was locked all the way and the fish was still able to take
line with ease."</div>

<br />
The Wahoo will continue to be our main target species for the next two months as well as Sailfish along the outer barrier reef. We expect to still have great winter fishing well into October. With the water temp now hovering just above 24 anglers fishing offshore should also see some Striped Marlin and short billed Spearfish.<br />

The big story for the next few months of course will be the winter Wahoo run. With the water temp now hitting 26C the Wahoo are starting to gather along the Great Astrolabe Barrier Reef. We expect a good season this year with Wahoo being caught as early as May and the first few Pacific Sailfish also showing. The Wahoo packs should grow to average 25-30 fish with an average size of around 60lbs.<br />

Show Host Bill Boyce was here a few years ago in the winter time for some insane wahoo & Sailfish action fishing with BlueWater Magazine Editor Tim Simpson. Bill set the new M-04 Fiji National Record for <a href="http://gamefishingfiji.com/fish-species-fiji/pacific-sailfish/" target="_blank">Pacific Sailfish</a> and both Bill and Tim landed IGFA World Record <a href="http://gamefishingfiji.com/fish-species-fiji/wahoo/" target="_blank">Wahoo</a> with Tim's fish just edging out Bills for the current M-04 World Record.<br />

Using a Dogfight 6500 on a Carpenter Blue Lagoon and GT Mania lure, Kenneth fought a huge <a href="http://gamefishingfiji.com/fish-species-fiji/giant-trevally-gt/" target="_blank">GT</a> for over 25 minutes until Joe could finally grab the leader.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
The fish measured 57 Inches (short length) smashing the current IGFA All-Tackle Length World Record however, because of the long fight, Kenneth elected to snap one quick photo and get the GT back in the water as soon as possible. Joe swam the fish for 5 minutes before a healthy release....<br />
Nice one guys, commendable !<br />
