IGFA Anglers Digest Filming aboard 'Bite Me Too'

We have been delighted to once again welcome the IGFA Anglers Digest TV film crew to Matava Resort and Bite Me Gamefishing Charters. Show Host Bill Boyce was here a few years ago in the winter time for some insane wahoo & Sailfish action fishing with BlueWater Magazine Editor Tim Simpson. Bill set the new M-04 Fiji National Record for Pacific Sailfish and both Bill and Tim landed IGFA World Record Wahoo with Tim's fish just edging out Bills for the current M-04 World Record.

Tim Simpson's M-04 IGFA World Record
This time around Bill and the team visited during the summer for some GT Popping, deep-water jigging and some summer species trolling and fished aboard our brand new 30ft custom fast offshore centre console Bite Me Too

Glorious weather and a trip out to the Kadavu Seamount found some nice Dogtooth Tuna on jigs, plenty of small Yellowfin and even a couple of marlin bites.

A nice Doggie caught jigging for guest angler Mike

Why they call them Dogtooth Tuna !

We even had a few nice early season Wahoo !
You can see the new show coming soon on the World Fishing Network or see some great sample video clips (some filmed aboard Bite Me) here : http://www.anglersdigest.tv/videos.html

Albacore Record Smashed !

Skipper Joe took angler Boyang Zhang out for some deep-water jigging last week aboard the new boat Bite Me Too. Great weather meant ideal jigging conditions and Boyang made the most of it hooking up and landing a 19.6kg Albacore setting a new M-36 Fiji National Record.

 That's a monster Albacore !

The very distinctive Pectoral fins on an Albacore

A very good Fiji Record catch for Boyang and of course - very good eating for all the other guests at Matava Resort !

Prime Slot opens up for Anglers

Summer Dolphinfish are numerous

Matava Eco-Adventure Resort was totally fully booked with divers for early January however it has just had a cancellation from the 1st to the 10th January 2012 opening up some accommodation space.
This means that Bite Me Gamefishing Charters now has a slot available for any anglers who might wish to charter Bite Me or Tease Me between the 1-10th January 2012

During our summer season we usually concentrate on offshore heavy tackle gamefishing for blue marlin and yellowfin tuna or we focus on heavy tackle popping for GTs and deepwater jigging for Dogtooth Tuna.

Summer time is usually when we see the larger blue marlin

The summer Yellowfin Tuna run is when we get the big cow yellowfin

Yellowfin boiling on glassy seas....a typical summer sight

Weather conditions are usually hot, humid and calm, ideal for offshore gamefishing, working outer barrier reef slopes with poppers for huge GTs and deepwater jigging.

If anybody is interested, please drop me a line any time at adrian@GameFishingFiji.com

Bite Me Takes Fiji Sailfish Record

The Eyre rods and Avet SXs - Our ultra-light tackle Record hunting gear

Australian anglers Steve, Peter and Paul came to Matava Eco-Adventure Resort recently to fish light and ultra-light tackle on the winter wahoo and sailfish. We fished 3kg line class for wahoo and tunas and targeted Pacific Sailfish on 6kg line class.
Steve brought with him a new Cam now available from Avet. Called the South Florida Cam it modifies the Avet SX drag curve to perfectly suit our ultra light tackle record hunting.
The wahoo fishing was slow thanks to La Nina weather patterns but the guys did pick up some National Records including the M-03 Kawakawa and Yellowfin tuna. Deckie Glen was clearing rods after a multiple yellowfin hook-up when a chuky skipjack tuna jumped on. Turned out his skippie smashed the current M-03 Fiji National Record when it weighed in at 8.6kg

Deckie Glen chuffed with his M-03 Skipjack Record of 8.6kg

The boys hooked and fought several sails on 6kg but the sails continued to elude us with spectaculor leaps and jumps across the ocean (We have some great video to post when I get to a faster connection !)
On the last day we went all out for the M-06 Sailfish Record. Fishing Soso bay Paul hooked up a nice sail and we went into action....Winning back the belly of line, charging backwards after the hard fighting fish. With both Joe and Glen aboard to handle the leader and gaffs we finally had the sail aboard after about a 45 minute fight.

What a cracking Sail for Paul on 6kg line class

The sail weighed in at 34.20kg and subject to FIGFA approval and line testing is the new M-06 Fiji National Record

Recent GT Pics taken aboard Tease Me

Henrik from Germany had a couple of half day popper casting session with Joe aboard Tease Me.

Weather was pretty ordinary but he managed some nice fish on his German made poppers and stickbaits. Made by Thomas Heidhoff and called X-Hoff he had most success with stickbaits in the choppy water.

Fiji Big Yellowfin Run Continues

For several months now Fiji Island waters have enjoyed an excellent run of big yellowfin tuna in the 50-70kg range (100-150lb). The numbers of small schooling yellowfin seem a little down on average but that is being more than made up for by numerous fish like these....

Melissa from Coffs Harbour GFC fought this yellowfin for two and a half hours aboard Bite Me on stand-up 50lb gear. This 56kg fish was hooked in the upper mouth with a trolled skirted lure and put up quite a stubborn fight.

A little help needed for a photo shot...

The next day Brandan landed this 65kg fish using 15kg stand-up tackle. This fish swallowed a bibbed minnow hampering its ability to fight so Brandan was able to fight the fish to the boat in about half an hour.

Pretty respectable catch on 15kg (30lb) line !
